Cain Manor, Churt Road, Headley Down, Surrey GU35 8SR Phone: 0345 130 9966
This lovely 16th Century barn style country house is a charming Surrey wedding venue that is situated on the Surrey and Hampshire border between Farnham and Haslemere and is accessed by a long and winding forest lined private road complete with quaint badger warning signs.
A Brief History of Cain Manor
There isn't much available historical information about the origins of Cain Manor - it was built in the Elizabethan period (1558-1603) and as was the tradition in those days many of its fine oak beams were reclaimed timbers salvaged from merchant ships.
Interestingly, the origin of the name is believed to be from its owner a Mr Cane who in finding himself excommunicated from the Roman Catholic church, originally called it 'The Land of Nod' thus referencing the biblical land where Cain was banished after slaying his brother Abel. When it reverted to Cain however is unclear.
Cain Manor wedding photographer opportunities
The main focus of the Manor and the hub of all the wedding activities is the lovely oak beamed high ceilinged barn style music room which comes complete with its cathedral windows and minstrel gallery.
This makes for a truly atmospheric space for the wedding ceremony, offering great natural beams of light as well as a sense of space and yet intimacy and with a seated capacity of up to 123 wedding guests. With two wedding photographers you can catch the service from both floor level and above from the minstrel gallery.
After the marriage service the couple break out into the comfortable library and Drawing Room which benefit from warming log fires when the days are a bit chilly and then weather permitting out onto the large patio area which also leads onto extensive lawns and green and tranquil backdrops. In summer there is also the option to hold the wedding ceremony outside on the patio area.
For group wedding pictures the patio and lawn area connected by a long wooden trellis are all lovely options though on a bright sunny day these can be too bright and some shade may be required.
For some romantic bride and groom wedding pictures there is the lawn with a lovely old style iron arbour bench as well the charming front of the house which provides a wonderful distressed backdrop for some intimate portrait shots. If being outside is not an option then the olden wooden beams and white walls of the ground floor rooms provide many more romantic opportunities.
After canapes and group shots we return back to the Music Room for the wedding breakfast and speeches followed later on by the first dance and late night celebrations.
Cain Manor is part of the Bijou Group which also includes Botleys mansion, Notley Abbey and Silchester House and they are run very smoothly with an eye to detail and comfort.
As well as it's lovely location the staff are welcoming, professional and helpful and it's a very pleasant Surrey wedding venue to photograph.
