Gorse Hill is a charming looking country mansion located down a long driveway in 17 acres of pleasant Surrey countryside.
A Brief History of Gorse Hill
Built in 1911 Gorse Hill Park has a strong connection with the transport industry having first been commissioned through the profits of transport insurance by a Mr Ingram, a successful Lloyds underwriter. Mr Ingrams however, did not get to enjoy his new house as his fortune was lost shortly after with the sinking of The Titanic in April 1912.
In World War ll a 500lb bomb landed in the grounds and the place was abandoned apart from the Home Guard who used it as a base.
After the war in 1947 it became the Southern Railway Training College and in 1959 was taken over by the British Transport Commission and then enlarged to accommodate all areas of nationalized transport.
Today with its many further additions including a library, lecture hall, bedrooms and administrative block it serves as a residential training college and conference centre.
Gorse Hill Surrey wedding photographer opportunities
As a wedding location, this grand looking country mansion is in fact a very welcoming, relaxed and intimate Surrey wedding venue.
The Bridal Suite is a lovely large room with a balcony with great views over the lawn and plenty of natural light for capturing the Bride as she prepares with her bridesmaids.
Then it's just a short walk down the staircase to the chosen marriage ceremony room.
There are three licensed wedding ceremony rooms adjacent to each other: First is The Restaurant (capacity of 90 seated wedding guests) with windows out onto the grounds; then next door is The Lounge which is blessed with plenty of natural light with its doors leading out onto the patio, offering wedding photographers plenty of opportunities to capture some lovely intimate shots throughout the marriage ceremony, which again can seat up to 90; finally next door is the more intimate Boardroom which can seat up to 35 guests for a wedding ceremony and 30 for a wedding breakfast.
So for a typical full day large wedding The Lounge would be prepared for the morning marriage ceremony and The Restaurant for the evening wedding breakfast.
For the evening and night time celebrations there is the intimate and cosy Boardroom which for the night time dance area. Again for the wedding photographer, the close layout means that guests can be easily captured in any room and also out in the bar which is directly accessed from the boardroom.
For the group wedding photographs there is the patio, including steps down to the lawn and for more intimate and romantic wedding pictures of the Bride and Groom the lawns extends out to trees and mature bushes.
As with all good Surrey wedding venues, staff are welcoming and helpful so the wedding day runs as smoothly as possible.
