Nonsuch Mansion is an elegant eye catching Georgian Surrey wedding venue set in the heart of 300 acres of beautiful parkland in Cheam and is a pleasure for any experienced and creative wedding photographer to work at.
Nonsuch Mansion - A brief history
This was originally the site of the wonderful Tudor Nonsuch Palace, built for Henry VII around 1538 and costing more than Henry VIII's Hampton Court Palace and thus regarded as 'non such' a palace in all of England.
The palace was completely destroyed during the Civil Wars of 1642-51 and so Nonsuch Mansion was built in its place in the eighteenth century. It was to be rebuilt in 1802-6 in a Gothic style with its distinctive castellated walls complete with a lovely rose walk, sunken flower gardens and nursery garden.
During the Second World War it was a base for the Home Guard and was farmed by the Land Girls and Canadian servicemen camped there before the D-Day invasion. It is now managed by the Borough of Epsom and Ewell.

There are eight lovely event rooms available and we particularly like the Orchid Room, which is the largest and is a long, octagonal room bathed in light from the tall windows and looks out onto the lawns and gardens. It also boasts many period features including gold chandeliers, long panelled mirrors, medieval-style motifs and stained glass windows.
White shutter doors divide the Orchid Room from the Rose Room which is a welcoming area for the after dinner celebrations. It too enjoys natural daylight from three full-length windows offering wonderful views over the garden and its elegant ceiling is covered in distinctive red Tudor rose motifs. All of which provide great backdrops for some memorable wedding photographs of the day.
Then of course there are the extensive grounds that surround Nonsuch Mansion. The lawn is ideal for guests to take a stroll, play games or relax with a glass of bubbly and there are plenty of green and tranquil backdrops for the group wedding photographs. For the Bride and Groom we have found along with the obvious classic Rose walk some lovely hidden away spots in woodland and by old wall arches that are just perfect for those intimate and romantic wedding photographs.
As wedding photographers we rate Nonsuch Mansion as a wonderful hidden gem of a wedding venue complete with a full and fascinating history.
